The Board of Directors of the Mining and Minerals Regulatory Authority (MMRA), led by the Chairperson Dr Zuze Dulanya, on Wednesday visited Portland Cement Factory in Balaka as part of its efforts to strengthen engagement with key players in the mining and cement manufacturing sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the visit, Dr Dulanya said the purpose of the visit was to engage directly with the company, observe its operations first-hand, and discuss concerns that had been raised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe visit has provided a valuable learning opportunity for us to better understand both the achievements and challenges facing the mining and cement manufacturing sector,\u201d Dr Dulanya said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chairperson commended Portland Cement for its significant contribution to the national economy through job creation, foreign exchange generation, and industrial development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs the largest producer of cement, it is therefore necessary for you to set high standards so that others in the mining and cement production sector can learn from you,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further acknowledged the company’s positive impact on the market, citing more stable and lower cement prices over the past six months compared with the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the commendations, Dr Dulanya stressed the importance of responsible operations and strict compliance with regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He therefore described the visit as a demonstration of the Government’s continued support for Portland Cement and encouraged the company to continue engaging with the regulator in addressing operational challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his remarks, Portland Cement Chief Executive Officer, Jianguo Liu, expressed his gratitude for the Board’s visit, saying it demonstrates a shared commitment to strengthening the mining and cement manufacturing sectors and fostering sustainable industrial growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are proud to showcase our operations, achievements, and ongoing investments aimed at enhancing efficiency, product quality, and environmental stewardship,\u201d Liu said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are also proud to share with you that the plant we recently constructed has helped reduce cement prices while also creating jobs,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n
