The Mining and Minerals Regulatory Authority (MMRA) has successfully held a Sensitization and Consultative Meeting with District Commissioners from the Eastern and Southern Regions on Monday, 28th July 2025, at Sun and Sand Resort in Mangochi. The meeting was aimed to raise awareness of the Mines and Minerals Act No. 25 of 2023 and strengthen collaboration between MMRA and local government structures in regulating and promoting the mining sector in Malawi.

The Director General of MMRA, Mr. Samuel Sakhuta, emphasized the crucial role district councils play in implementing the Act and supporting responsible mineral development. In his remarks, he highlighted MMRA’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with councils to ensure transparency, accountability, and sustainable development in the sector.

The meeting featured an engaging session where participants shared experiences, asked questions, and explored ways to overcome challenges encountered at district level. The session was followed by a detailed presentation on the new Act, its provisions, and the functions of the MMRA.
